Award-winning Afrobeat singer Tiwa Savage has confidently declared herself one of the “big 3” in the music industry during an interview with Beat FM.
In a bold statement, she asserted,
Don’t get me started because if we’re to go talent for talent, mic for mic, I am the big one.”
Her declaration sparked a variety of reactions on social media. While some fans rallied behind her, others were more critical. Omolade Adedoyin remarked, “Aunty Tiwa claiming No. 1 spot but no female artist has been brought to stardom through her.” Conversely, Daniel defended her, saying, “She isn’t lying. Looking at the music industry in Nigeria, there isn’t a single female that can go toe to toe with Tiwa.”
Other responses varied from support to skepticism, with some users asserting her status while others suggested competition. Comments included:
- “Tiwa might not be no.1 but talent for talent, she’s top 4” (Stretch)
- “Simi better pass you” (Moon Ranker)
- “She’s not even capping. She’s really 1 of 1” (Ardey Ifed)
Tiwa Savage’s impact on the Afrobeat scene is undeniable. Last year, she made history as the first African artist to perform at the coronation of a British monarch, King Charles III, a moment she recalled with pride, stating that she would someday tell her son, Jamil, about her monumental performance.
In April, Tiwa addressed claims that she doesn’t support other female artists, sharing a passionate Instagram rant. She challenged critics by highlighting her numerous collaborations with female artists, including Waje, Ayra Starr, Amaare, Becca, and Simi, emphasizing her commitment to uplifting her peers.
As one of the most prominent female artists in Africa, Tiwa Savage continues to break records and redefine the standards of the music industry.
