Nigerian media personality and actress Toke Makinwa says she can’t believe she cried online while opening up about her pregnancy journey. The expectant mum shared that God answered her long-time prayer to become a mother at 40, and she is overflowing with emotions as she prepares to welcome her first child.
On the latest episode of her podcast, Toke Moments, Toke Makinwa broke down in tears while reflecting on her journey to motherhood. She revealed that she had prayed to God to turn 40 as a mum. When she celebrated her 40th birthday in November last year, that prayer had not yet been answered—but by December, she found out she was pregnant.
Toke said God did not fail her and encouraged others that it is never too late for dreams to come true.
Taking to Instagram later, she poked fun at herself for crying online, admitting she used to laugh at people who did the same. She called herself “a mess” but described her joy as overwhelming, saying her heart is “over the moon” and the lines have “fallen in pleasant places.”
I am a ball of emotions… I cannot believe I cried on the internet. I’m one to laugh at people who cry online, but let me call myself out before you guys do it. My heart is over the moon, the lines have fallen for me in pleasant places, and it’s only the beginning,” she wrote.
Earlier this year, Toke had openly discussed her readiness for marriage—even as a second, third, or fourth wife. In past podcast episodes, she has spoken about being single and childless at 40, admitting that if she had remarried, she might have divorced again. Despite the challenges, she maintains a positive outlook and refuses to wallow in self-pity.
Last year, when a troll mocked her for being unmarried, she confidently replied that God would answer her in due time, and her critics would live to congratulate her. Toke has also addressed misconceptions that she dislikes men, clarifying that she loves marriage and believes in the power of two people building together.
