Nigerian media personality and former OAP, Toke Makinwa, has shared her emotional pregnancy journey, opening up about the fears she battled before embracing her joy.
In a post accompanying photos from her Marie Claire magazine photoshoot, the soon-to-be mum revealed that she spent months gripped with fear, unsure of what could go wrong. She admitted that at some point she wanted to run away, became withdrawn, and struggled to share her joy with the world.
Quoting scripture, Toke said she was reminded that “the gift of the Lord makes rich and adds no sorrow.” She declared that her praise is now louder than any fear, noting that this season feels different because “God makes all things beautiful in His time.”
Perfect love drives out fear… I spent a lot of months afraid, afraid of what could go wrong. I wanted to run away. I became weird and didn’t want to share this joy with the world. Then I remembered that the gift of the Lord makes rich; it adds no sorrow. So my praise is louder than any fear. It’s different this time,” she wrote.
The media personality further congratulated other expectant mothers, calling them part of a new generation she described as Gen Beta.
Just days earlier, Toke reflected on past online trolls who mocked her for not having a husband or children. She thanked God for having the final say, adding that He continues to shame the devices of the wicked.
Toke announced her pregnancy via Instagram with a touching video of her baby bump. On her podcast, she broke down in tears as she recalled how she had prayed to God to turn 40 as a mum. According to her, her prayers were answered when she conceived the month after her milestone birthday.
In previous podcast episodes, Toke spoke candidly about navigating life at 40 as a single woman without children. She admitted that if she had married a second time, she might have divorced again, stressing that she has learned to embrace life’s lessons without self-pity.
Last year, after being mocked by a troll who said she had passed her “single era” and was now in her “unmarried era,” Toke responded with faith, declaring that God would do it for her — and her critics would live to congratulate her.
