Nigerian photographer Toni Payne has voiced her frustrations over the rising cost of food in the United States and the uncertainties surrounding former President Donald Trump’s leadership.
In an Instagram story, Payne expressed her exhaustion with the ongoing challenges she faces, attributing the increased prices of food and heightened tension in the country to Trump’s presidency. She also highlighted how the tourism industry, which directly impacts her work, is suffering due to the administration’s unpredictable policies, including the detention of visitors.
“Is it too early to impeach Trump? I’m tired of the everyday wahala. Always some chaos… Food is more expensive since he got there. People are on edge,” Payne wrote. She further lamented, “Even my industry is affected because uncertainty of his next move. No one knows what tourism will be this summer since they keep detaining visitors and even tortured one.”
Her comments drew mixed reactions from social media users. Some criticized her for focusing on U.S. issues instead of addressing similar challenges in Nigeria, while others acknowledged that inflation is a global problem.
One user commented, “You don impeach your own president finish? Now it’s heaven on earth own you wan impeach?”
Another wrote, “Inflation is everywhere. It’s not just a U.S. issue.”
This isn’t the first time Payne has sparked conversations online. Recently, she described billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk as giving “grown man with a toddler’s brain capacity vibes.”Payne isn’t alone in her frustrations. Veteran Nigerian actress Omotola Ekeinde also recently lamented about the cost of food in the U.S. She revealed she spent N680 on Ugwu (pumpkin leaves), expressing disbelief at the prices of basic food items.
These sentiments highlight the broader issue of inflation and its ripple effects on individuals globally, regardless of their profession or location.
