Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh recently recounted her experience with online scammers, shedding light on the risks of online transactions.
In a candid Instagram post, the actress revealed how she once purchased 12 phones for a giveaway, only to be blocked by the vendor after payment. Embarrassed by the incident, she confided in just two close friends.
“I was too ashamed to cry or talk, so I only told my friends Vee and Henry,” she shared. “This happened about three years ago for a birthday giveaway. Let me just say, they played me King Street style.”
Tonto further warned her followers about the prevalence of scams, urging them to stay cautious when making online purchases.
Scammers have targeted other public figures as well. Yoruba actress Bimpe Akintunde placed a curse on those impersonating her, while Portable’s baby mama, Ashabi, called out a fraudster using her identity to dupe unsuspecting fans. Similarly, actor Alesh Sanni offered a N500,000 reward for anyone who could locate a woman who had been scamming people under the guise of being his associate.
Prominent Nigerian businessman Obi Cubana and singer Peter Okoye (Mr. P of PSquare) have also spoken out about scammers misusing their names for fraudulent activities. Cubana emphasized that he does not have a Twitter account, contrary to scammers’ claims.
While reflecting on family matters, Tonto recently addressed her father humorously over his Children’s Day wishes to her son while seemingly neglecting her. She expressed her feelings with characteristic wit, saying she has “beef” with him.
