Nollywood actress and politician Tonto Dikeh has urged Nigerians to rethink their plans for a nationwide protest scheduled for August 1-10, 2024.
In a heartfelt letter posted on her Instagram page, Tonto acknowledged the widespread frustration and economic hardships faced by Nigerians, citing the alarming rise in market prices.
Despite her empathy for the situation, Tonto believes that a protest may not be the most effective approach. Reflecting on her experience with the EndSARS protests, she cautioned against potential hijacking by ill-minded individuals, which could lead to violence and loss of lives. Instead, she suggested the formation of a representative group to engage in peaceful and diplomatic discussions with the President on behalf of the people.
Sometimes we can be right, but our mode of expression is what matters. This is an honest plea to all Nigerian youths. Let’s make smart choices.”

In October 2023, Tonto Dikeh’s political alignment with the All Progressives Congress (APC) sparked controversy among netizens, who accused her of hypocrisy. Tonto responded by emphasizing her commitment to impactful leadership and the progress of Nigeria and its youth.
Earlier this year, Tonto also questioned Labor Party presidential aspirant Peter Obi’s commitment to national progress, criticizing his unveiling of borehole projects in Northern states. She expressed disappointment and disbelief, questioning whether his actions were truly in the nation’s best interest.
