A key terrorist from Bello Turji’s camp has reportedly expressed willingness to surrender and abandon criminal activities.
The development follows intensified military operations against bandit groups in the North-West, forcing some members to reconsider their actions.
Counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, who focuses on the Lake Chad region, disclosed this in a post on his X handle.
According to Makama, a respected Islamic scholar, Malam Murtala Bello Asada, recently held discussions with a member of Turji’s faction. The armed criminal reportedly reached out voluntarily, expressing a genuine desire to surrender and seek repentance.
Malam Murtala reminded the bandit of previous opportunities to surrender that were wasted due to their failure to lay down arms. However, he assured him that if his resolve was sincere this time, proper steps could be taken to facilitate his reintegration.
The Nigerian military remains committed to its offensive against terrorist networks while keeping the door open for those willing to renounce violence. Security forces continue to pursue fleeing terrorists and dismantle criminal strongholds in the region.
Bello Turji is a notorious bandit leader responsible for numerous attacks in northern Nigeria. His faction has been a major target of military operations aimed at restoring peace in the region.
