Renowned rapper Tory Lanez, known for his music and collaborations, is currently confined to solitary quarters within LA’s notorious County Jail, under heightened security measures due to concerns of potential inmate attacks. The confinement follows his sentencing to a ten-year prison term for the 2020 shooting incident involving former friend and artist Megan Thee Stallion.
In a report by Mail Online, officials are maintaining close surveillance over the hip-hop artist, conducting checks every half-hour within the administrative segregation unit—a space that has previously housed prominent figures like OJ Simpson and Danny Masterson, known for his role in That 70s Show and convicted of rape.
Tory Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson and who is 31 years old, had pleaded with Judge David Herriford during his sentencing last week, appealing for an alternative to imprisonment. The sentence stems from a gun attack that transpired following a pool party at the residence of Kylie Jenner.
Currently, the rapper’s daily routine involves spending a substantial 22 hours alone in his cell, a condition exacerbated by the jail’s reputation for violence and overcrowding. The grim circumstances have prompted concerns about his safety.
The incarcerated artist is also under suicide watch, with limited privileges such as an every-other-day shower schedule. Moreover, he is granted only three hours per week to access the jail’s outdoor grounds.
Tragically, the challenges within Los Angeles County jails have seen a toll on the lives of inmates. Since June 1, the facilities have witnessed a total of 12 reported deaths, underscoring the urgency for reforms and improved conditions. One of these cases involved Joseph Hutchinson, who lost his life to a stabbing incident at Men’s Central Jail on August 4.
