The talented actor, aged 49, tragically lost his life on Sunday, May 14, 2023, in a devastating accident when he slipped on bathroom tiles and hit his head on a hard object.
The news of Murphy Afolabi’s sudden passing sent shockwaves through the entertainment community, as just days before, he had joyously celebrated his 49th birthday on May 5. However, the circumstances of his demise, slipping on toilet tiles, left many in disbelief and profound sorrow.

Nollywood celebrities took to social media to declare Sunday a “Black Day” in the industry, paying tribute to Murphy Afolabi and expressing their profound grief. Videos emerged online, capturing the somber procession that witnessed Murphy Afolabi’s lifeless body transported to his final resting place in Ikorodu. The initial burial plans slated his interment in Osogbo, Osun state; however, according to the video, a change saw him being laid to rest at his residence in Ikorodu, Lagos state.
