Gremio will block Luis Suarez from joining Inter Miami, where he could be reunited with Lionel Messi, ESPN reports.
The MLS side is pushing to sign Suarez before the transfer window closes on August 2.
There are rumors that the Uruguayan is ready to buy out his contract with Gremio in order to make the transfer happen.
However, Suarez’s current contract expires in December 2024 and the Brazilian club has made it clear they want him to stay until at least the end of the year. Former Barcelona team-mates Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba have already signed for Inter Miami this summer.
They are all coached by ex-Barcelona boss Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino.
