United States President Donald Trump has announced his decision to halt all future funding to South Africa, citing concerns over the treatment of “certain classes of people” in the country.
Trump made the statement on Sunday through a post on his social media platform, Truth Social. He alleged that the South African government was confiscating land and mistreating some citizens without regard for their rights.
“South Africa is confiscating land and treating certain classes of people VERY BADLY. I will be cutting off all future funding to South Africa until a full investigation of this situation has been completed!” Trump wrote.
Though he did not specify the affected groups, reports suggest that the U.S. leader may be referring to White South Africans, particularly farmers, who have long expressed concerns over land expropriation policies. Some have accused the South African government of implementing unfair policies that disproportionately target them.
South Africa’s land reform program, aimed at addressing historical injustices from the apartheid era, has sparked international debate, with critics arguing that land seizures could harm property rights and economic stability.
