Former U.S. President Donald Trump has declared April 2 as “Liberation Day” for America, marking the date he plans to introduce “reciprocal tariffs” aimed at resetting global trade.

In a Truth Social post on Friday, Trump claimed that the United States has been “ripped off and abused” by nations worldwide for decades. He expressed confidence that his new trade policies would help restore the country’s financial strength and international standing.

“April 2nd is Liberation Day in America!!! For DECADES we have been ripped off and abused by every nation in the World, both friend and foe. Now it is finally time for the Good Ol’ USA to get some of that MONEY, and RESPECT, BACK. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!” Trump wrote.

His proposed tariffs have sparked concerns among economists, who warn they could trigger a recession both in the United States and globally. Experts fear that the increased trade restrictions may disrupt international supply chains, raise consumer prices, and slow economic growth.

Also, several affected countries have already announced retaliatory measures, heightening fears of a global economic downturn. Critics argue that such tariffs could strain diplomatic relations and hurt American businesses that rely on foreign trade.
