Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has informed Nigerians that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms are intended to relieve the country’s economic difficulties.
Speaking during a news conference at his Tuggar Foundation office in Bauchi on Saturday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs urged the public to be patient with the current All Progressives Congress-led administration.
He stated that Nigeria’s present economic woes are part of a larger global issue and that comparable difficulties are being faced throughout the world.
Maitama Tuggar blamed Nigeria’s economic problems on prior policies and foreign forces inherited by the Tinubu government.
He related the issues to the 2008 global financial crisis and the following occurrences, such as the COVID-19 epidemic, which affected global trade, transportation, and livelihoods.
He said:
“The coronavirus pandemic closed borders, halted the movement of goods and services, and claimed many lives, which has had a lasting impact on the cost of living worldwide, including in Nigeria.”
The Minister also cited economic disruptions in Nigeria as a result of insufficient investment in expanding refinery capacity to satisfy rising fuel demand.
