Twitter has ushered in a new era of social media by introducing a monetization program for verified users. One prominent profile already received an astonishing payment of $100,000 (£76,275). This initiative reportedly aims to empower creators and help them earn a living directly on the platform.
Twitter monetization features were announced just recently, signalling a remarkable shift in the landscape of online content creation. This scheme, however, is exclusively available to notable Twitter Blue subscribers. Furthermore, they must demonstrate a minimum of five million impressions on their posts in the past three months.
Impressions, as explained by the platform, refer to the total number of times a tweet has been viewed. The funds allocated to support these eligible creators will be drawn from Twitter’s advertising revenue. This showcases a unique approach to rewarding user-generated content.
Interestingly, Twitter’s move comes on the heels of a similar endeavour by Meta, led by Mark Zuckerberg, who recently launched their own platform called Threads. With over 100 million new sign-ups, Threads has garnered significant attention, further highlighting the growing demand for creator monetization opportunities.
In a statement released last night, Twitter emphasized their commitment to empowering creators, stating,
We’re expanding our creator monetization offering to include ad revenue sharing. This means that creators can get a share in ad revenue, starting in the replies to their posts. This is part of our effort to help people earn a living directly on Twitter. We’re rolling out the program more broadly later this month, and all eligible creators will be able to apply.”
Excitement has already begun to build as some influential individuals have received news about the funds they are set to receive. Notable cartoonist Shibetoshi Nakamoto, for instance, shared a post revealing that he will be receiving $37,050 (£28,259). This, allegedly, will be deposited into his account within the next 72 hours. Similarly, author Ashley St. Clair and podcaster Benny Johnson are reportedly expecting payments of $7,153 (£5,455) and $9,546 (£7,281), respectively.
One particularly intriguing account claimed a staggering sum of $107,247 (£81,802), boasting the title of a “self-taught brain surgeon.” These revelations further emphasize the significant financial potential awaiting verified Twitter users.
With Elon Musk at the helm, Twitter’s revolutionary step towards rewarding creators marks a turning point in the social media landscape. As the platform prepares to roll out its monetization program to a wider audience, the future seems promising for content creators seeking to monetize their online presence.
