On Thursday night, unknown gunmen assassinated a third-class chief, Abdulmutalib Nuhu, in Sensani Village in Taraba State’s Gasol Local Government Area.
Nuhu was reportedly slain a few hours before the Taraba State Government hosted the Nwonyo Fishing and Cultural Festival in the state’s Ibbi Local Government Area.
According to reports, Ibbi is the hometown of Hamisu Bala, also known as Wadume, an infamous convicted gun runner who was just freed from jail.
The attackers attacked Sensani hamlet about 9 p.m. on Thursday and proceeded directly to the traditional ruler’s palace, which is a few miles from Ibbi, the festival’s location.
The Taraba State Government has, however, assured those travelling to the event that there would be appropriate protection throughout the festival.
