Adeleke Adeyinka, the All Progressives Congress (APC) councillorship candidate for Abeokuta South Local Government, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Saturday.
The event happened at about 2 p.m. in the Jide Jones neighbourhood of Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The perpetrators arrived in a tinted sedan, and one of them stepped out to shoot Adeyinka at close range before smashing his skull till he died.
According to an observer who saw the viral video in which the victim was lying face-up in a pool of blood.
According to a person who has requested anonymity, said:
“The killing happened around 2 p.m., it took everybody by surprise. No one knows if it was a cultist attack or not. The people in the area are already locking their shops. Everywhere is tense now, it is so sad.”
The deceased, a former youth leader in Abeokuta South Local Government, was running for Councilor of Ward 15 in the upcoming November 16 local government elections.
During his life, the councillorship candidate was claimed to have worked for a transportation union in Abeokuta’s Panseke neighbourhood.
Meanwhile, the Ogun All Progressives Congress Youth Leaders’ Forum denounced the death.
The forum, in a statement acquired by journalists and signed by Abeokuta South Local Government’s youth leader, Comrade Kabir Odedairo, and its PRO, Timothy Odedina, characterized the death as needless and awful.
