Kimberly Cheatle, Director of the United States Secret Service, has resigned in response to outrage over the failed murder attempt on former President Donald Trump, sources told CNN.
There have been calls for Cheatle’s resignation, as well as an effort by Republican lawmakers to impeach her.
Lawmakers were particularly enraged by her refusal to answer several of the House Oversight Committee’s questions during her public hearing on Monday.
Cheatle was adamant about not stepping down in the immediate aftermath of the incident.
President Joe Biden selected Cheatle to command the Secret Service in 2022.
A 20-year-old fired at Trump during his presidential campaign in Butler, Pennsylvania, despite the fact that Secret Service officials were there.
The gunshots just missed Trump’s skull and struck him in the ear.
