In a candid revelation, former Super Eagles captain Vincent Enyeama discloses his disconnect from the struggles of the Nigerian National Team’s goalkeeping situation, citing a feeling of being mistreated during his international career.
Retired since 2015, Enyeama, who amassed 101 appearances for the Super Eagles and played a pivotal role in the team’s 2013 AFCON victory, expressed his disinterest in Nigerian football, emphasizing a deliberate decision to distance himself after a fallout with the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF).
During an interview with Hotsports NG, the 41-year-old goalkeeper expressed deep hurt over his treatment by the NFF, stating, “Sincerely, I’ve not been following Nigerian football right from the day I left. With due respect, I was treated like a piece of material, so I put up a block between myself and the national team and only recently started to follow what is happening.”
Enyeama, a CAF Champions League winner with Enyimba, explained his decision to stop watching national team football, saying, “I stopped watching the national team football because I was deeply hurt, but now I’m at ease. I’ve changed chapters. I can’t really say much about the national team and the goalkeeping because I am not watching them.”
As Nigerian football fans seek insights into the team’s recent performances, Enyeama remained tight-lipped, refusing to comment on the struggles faced by Omonia S.C.’s Francis Uzoho.
Nigeria, currently grappling with two points from their initial two matches in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, faces challenges both on and off the field as they navigate through a critical phase in international football.
