Electoral activities have begun at Polling Unit 007, situated within St. Stephen’s Nursery and Primary School in Adeniji Adele, Lagos Island, where Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is expected to cast his vote in the ongoing Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) elections.
The voting process started promptly at 8:00 a.m. as scheduled, with officials from the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) arriving on time to commence the exercise.
The election, which aims to elect new chairmen and councillors across the state, is being conducted in all 20 constitutionally recognised Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos.
Among the early voters at the governor’s polling unit was Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Governor Sanwo-Olu, who exercised his franchise shortly after the polls opened.
Security personnel were visibly present at the polling unit, with police officers deployed to maintain order and ensure a smooth and peaceful voting process. The presence of security forces is part of broader measures to prevent disruptions and uphold the integrity of the elections across the state.
Voters at the polling unit expressed optimism about the electoral process, with many arriving early to participate in the democratic exercise. LASIEC officials were seen verifying voter details and assisting electorates as they queued to cast their ballots. The commission has reiterated its commitment to conducting a free, fair, and credible election in line with electoral guidelines.
As voting continues, residents across Lagos State are encouraged to turn out en masse and exercise their civic rights in determining the leadership of their local councils. The elections mark a significant step in strengthening grassroots governance and democratic participation in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
