The Kogi State Government says it has used technology to prevent income leakages throughout the state.

Salihu Sule Enehe, Executive Chairman of the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS), announced the formal flag-off ceremony of the Kogi State Infrastructure Maintenance Levy Collection on Monday in Lokoja.

Enehe stated that the rate of leakages in the income generation process throughout the state is inconceivable and poses a significant challenge to the Service.

He did, however, state that the Service’s new technology-driven procedure will eliminate the need for physical intervention.

In his speech, Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo highlighted the Infrastructure Maintenance Levy as a key component of the state government’s income collection strategy, supported by the legislation.

He said:

“The process will improve the revenue generation of the State and ease of collection. The new technology will take care of all the challenges in revenue collection.”

The governor, represented by Dr. Folashade Ayoade Arike, Secretary to the State Government, pointed out that Kogi State had not been able to implement the Infrastructure Maintenance Levy successfully since it established the Internally Generating Revenue Service in 2017, while neighbouring states like Kwana, Edo, Osun, and Anambra were seeing great success with it.

He said that the project’s launch signalled the start of the state’s technology-assisted Infrastructure Maintenance Levy collection.

According to Ododo, the Infrastructure Maintenance Levy’s achievement will allow his administration to increase income and provide the people with decent governance.

He instructed all transport union leaders, members, and other stakeholders to fully collaborate with the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service in the execution of the Infrastructure Maintenance Levy.
