Ola Olukoyede, Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has urged whistleblowers against making false claims or providing misleading intelligence, as such activities will be sanctioned.

Speaking during this year’s AU-Anti-Corruption Day road walk in Ilorin on Thursday, he emphasised the need of true devotion, passion, consistency, and credibility in combating corruption.

The EFCC boss said:

“We cannot win the war against corruption through lip service, emotional outbursts or mere mob campaigns.

”There is a need for commitment, passion, consistency and credibility of intelligence.”

Olukoyode, represented by the Acting Zonal Director, Harry Erin, warned Nigerians that corruption affects everyone and asked them not to be apathetic or silent, noting that an internet fraudster presents as much risk to the country’s collective prosperity as a national treasury looter.”

He urged Nigerians not to support cyber scammers by being apathetic, mute, or uncommitted. Whistleblowing is our personal opportunity to combat corruption. Let us accept it completely.”

The road walk, which began at the EFCC command’s headquarters, was part of festivities commemorating the 2024 African Union Anti-Corruption Day, which is entitled “Effective Whistleblower Protection Mechanism: A Critical Tool in the Fight Against Corruption.”
