Why Men Should Learn to Cook

Many believe that men make better cooks than women. A lot of women will disagree. Truth is, it doesn’t matter. All that matters is food has been cooked, is edible, and is satisfactory. However, it is unfair if only women cook and men don’t. In many households, the girls are drilled, and trained to be good cooks, while boys are not. So you have a society in Nigeria made up of just a few men who can cook. If it is true that men make better cooks, it is inconsequential if the numbers do not match. Therefore the men have to sit up. Here are some reasons why men should learn to cook.

Cooking is an important skill

Cooking is a prerequisite for survival. Everyone should learn to cook, regardless of your gender. Like any other skill, it takes time and effort. But once you put in the work, you can do wonders. Cooking activities are a great way to express your artistry. You are the master of the canvas. From learning how to cut vegetables and fruits quickly or garnishing the dish in an attractive way. It could save your life. You might find yourself where you need to cook to survive.

You can ease the workload of the ladies

In African tradition, women are saddled with the responsibility of cooking for a household. This tradition has been passed down through generations. However, things are changing. In fact, things have changed. In the 21st century, women are not relegated to household duties a cannot carry the burden of cooking by themselves. It is only sensible that men also learn how to cook so as to assist the family and lighten the load of their wives.

Go Against Stereotypes

The stereotype that cooking is for women is utter rubbish. What a woman can do a man can do better. Everybody should learn how to cook. Yes, there are gender roles, but cooking is not exclusive to women. It’s like saying only men should drive. So as a man better sit up, and work on improving your cooking. It will help your life!

A Way to be Romantic

Preparing a meal for your partner and preparing a meal with your partner are both romantic gestures. Many believe that food and romance go hand in hand. Women find men who can cook attractive. You can get your lady breakfast, or make her a special meal when she is stressed.  Nowadays, women work as much as men do, and they definitely do not have enough time to cook. When a man cooks for his partner, it means that he loves her and cares for her as well.

Cost Effective

If you don’t know how to cook and don’t have someone at home who cooks for you, you will end up eating outside all the time. Now this goes two ways: if you have money, you may be able to afford to eat at good places where the food is well prepared. This will be expensive, and at the end of the day, you will spend twice what you would have if you made the food at home by yourself. If you don’t have money to eat in good restaurants, you’ll patronize roadside vendors and eat unhealthy food, and spend money treating yourself.

You won’t be dependent

When you know how to cook, you won’t have to rely on anybody or wait unnecessarily for someone else to cook for you. You can simply get the ingredients from the market and cook for yourself. If you learn to cook, you’ll get to decide what to cook. Of course, you’ll also have the option to ask your family members what they would like to eat. But, if you are alone, then you can choose to cook whatever you like. You can satisfy your cravings yourself, and won’t need to go to a restaurant.

You can be a Good Role Model

When a woman can cook in Nigeria, it’s normal. But when a man can cook, it’s impressive! If you as a man learn to cook, you can set a benchmark for other non-cooking men. Your family, your spouse, your girlfriends, besties, side-chicks, and every female in your life will be proud. Even if no one is proud of you, no problem, you can be proud of yourself. Pride can be a good thing. The feeling of satisfaction and self-accomplishment is second to none.

Cooking by yourself is Healthy`

when a person eats out all the time, it is risky. You weren’t present when the food you were consuming was being prepared. However, when you learn to cook, you can ensure that your food is properly made, and everything is clean and healthy.

Bottom Line

The stereotype that cooking is for women is long outdated. Challenge yourself to learn. You’d be surprised at how easy cooking can be, and the sorts of creative things you can do with food.
