Nigerian comedian-turned-prophet Woli Arole has taken a stand against Christians who criticize the popular reality show Big Brother Naija (BBNaija).
In response to the backlash surrounding the debut of the show’s 9th season on July 28th, 2024, Arole urged Christians to channel their energy into creating their own godly reality TV shows.
Taking to his Instagram page, Arole stated:
Nobody should complain about BBNaija ooo. Do your own Goldy reality TV shows, too!! If you don’t sponsor them, you can’t tell them how they should behave. Do yours!! There are billionaires that are Christians drop money for godly TV shows. Shikena.”
Arole’s statement has sparked mixed reactions online. While some agree with his perspective, others feel he is missing the point of the criticism.
One user commented, “He’s not encouraging you to watch BBN. All he’s saying is that instead of criticising, Christians should wake up and do something.”
Another wrote, “This one no get sense. It’s a distraction na; which one is do your own TV shows?”
Arole’s comments come amid ongoing debates about the impact of BBNaija on Nigerian society. Critics argue that the show promotes immoral behavior, while supporters claim it provides much-needed entertainment and a platform for youth expression.
Earlier, Nollywood actress Destiny Etiko also questioned Nigerians’ excitement over BBNaija amidst the country’s economic hardship. She highlighted the contradiction between financial struggles and the public’s continued investment in entertainment.
