In a heart-wrenching turn of events, a devastated husband has confirmed the passing of his wife, Miriam Visintin, who had spent over three decades in a coma following a devastating car crash on Christmas Eve in 1991. Miriam, from Riese, Veneto, passed away tragically on May 10th at the San Bassiano hospital. They moved her to the hospital two months prior due to complications related to fluid buildup in her lungs.
Miriam’s life took a tragic turn when she crashed her Fiat Panda in Casoni di Mussolente, Veneto, sustaining severe head injuries that resulted in an inoperable brain injury, plunging her into a coma. Her devoted husband of 33 years, Angelo Farina, expressed his grief and spoke about the long journey they had endured together.
Reflecting on Miriam’s passing from cardiac arrest, Angelo said,
She finally had peace for her injustice… Finally she’s up there in peace and in paradise.” He continued, “We had only been married a year and a half when tragedy struck. We were so young and had so many projects… fate has been cruel to her. She didn’t deserve all of this.”
Background:
Their lives were forever altered during their second Christmas together, just a year after they got married in 1990. Miriam’s car lost control on a frozen surface and collided with a pole, leaving her with life-threatening injuries. Doctors delivered a grim prognosis, stating that she would likely not survive the night. Undeterred by the challenges ahead, Angelo remained steadfast in his commitment to his wife, vowing to stand by her through thick and thin.
They initially transferred Miriam to the La Madonnina residential home for specialized care, where they made efforts to preserve her life. Later, they moved her to Casa Sturm, where she stayed until complications from pleural effusion arose. They then relocated her to San Bassiano.
Angelo’s devotion to his wife was unwavering. He visited the hospital every day, often multiple times a day, barring the exceptions imposed by the ongoing pandemic.
I went every day, during the lunch break, at least 15 minutes. Sometimes I managed to go even in the evening,” Angelo shared with La Repubblica following the funeral on Saturday. Reflecting on their journey, he stated, “If I went back, I would do it all over again.”
Angelo had made the decision to stand by Miriam’s side from the beginning, remaining there with her until her last day. He acknowledged the immense difficulty of the situation, grappling with anger and a sense of injustice that such a beautiful, kind, and special woman had met such a tragic fate.
May Miriam’s soul find eternal peace, and may Angelo find solace in the memories of the time they shared together.
