Nollywood actor and self-styled clergyman Yul Edochie has sparked fresh debates on DNA tests and paternity.
Taking to Instagram, the controversial actor expressed strong views on the topic, asserting that any woman who refuses a DNA test when requested is concealing the truth.
In his Instagram post, Yul Edochie urged men to insist on DNA tests if they have doubts about their children’s paternity. He advised men not to be swayed by excuses and emphasized that a person with nothing to hide would not refuse a DNA test:
“Any woman who refuses to do DNA tests on her child when it is demanded is hiding something.
Don’t fall for any excuse she gives to you.
She is hiding something.
A clear conscience fears nothing.”
His statement quickly ignited conversations among fans and followers, with many expressing both support and opposition.
Yul joins a growing list of public figures advocating for DNA testing:
- Don Jazzy: The renowned music executive previously highlighted the importance of DNA tests, stating that it should take precedence over a naming ceremony.
- Do2dtun: In May, the media personality argued that DNA tests should be standard practice immediately after birth, likening it to the regular health tests performed on newborns.
- Rotimi Salami: The actor pushed for paternity fraud to be criminalized, comparing its emotional impact on men to the trauma experienced by women in cases of rape.
However, not all celebrities agree with this stance.
Veteran actor and filmmaker Ugezu J. Ugezu voiced his disapproval of the growing trend of DNA tests. He argued that such tests are divisive and can destroy families and harm innocent children. Ugezu maintained that, from an African cultural perspective, any child born to an African man is his child, regardless of biological ties.
The topic of DNA tests has increasingly become a hot-button issue, with proponents emphasizing the need for clarity and truth while opponents warn of the potential harm to relationships and families.
