Nollywood actor and clergyman Yul Edochie has sparked conversations with his bold stance on the causes of untimely deaths in society and their potential solutions.
In a recent Instagram post, Edochie attributed the increasing rate of untimely deaths to the abandonment of traditional practices and the embrace of Western ideologies. Urging Nigerians to return to their roots, he shared that adhering to traditional values and spiritual practices can protect individuals from untimely demise.
“Untimely death has become rampant in our society.
It’s happening bcos majority of us have abandoned our traditional ways and embraced the ways of the white man.
Go home and embrace our traditional ways.
As a traditionalist, you’ll be fully enlightened on the dos and don’ts of spirituality.
If you keep to it judiciously, untimely death will never be your portion,” he wrote.
This isn’t the first time Yul Edochie has championed traditional practices. Last month, he urged pastors and priests to demystify traditional worship for their congregations, emphasizing that tradition isn’t synonymous with “juju.” He noted that while prayers are powerful, some problems require traditional solutions.
Edochie, who now identifies as both a prophet and a native doctor, has shared his transformative journey back to his roots. In March, he revealed that he received divine instruction to learn the traditional ways of his people, which he claims are approved by God.
Explaining his stance, Edochie highlighted that his return to tradition has made him “complete” and more powerful in his ministerial work. According to him, God has called him to guide people back to their traditions, which he believes hold the key to salvation.
This perspective marks a significant departure from his earlier criticism of Nigerians who abandoned Christianity for Western traditions. He now asserts that Western religions were introduced to erase indigenous practices, a truth he believes has been hidden for decades.
