Nollywood actor and former presidential candidate Yul Edochie has taken to social media to defend individuals referred to as “Ogbanje.”
In a heartfelt message shared on his Instagram page, Edochie described these individuals as spiritually gifted, with a higher purpose to help humanity. Unfortunately, he noted that many of them are misunderstood due to ignorance, religious beliefs, and societal fear, causing them to reject their true selves, which in turn leads to struggles in their lives.
In his post, Edochie urged those with spiritual gifts to embrace their true identity and understand the essence of their existence. He emphasized that once they accept who they are, they will find fulfillment in life.
Many people we call ‘Ogbanje’ are people who are spiritually gifted. And the essence of having such a spiritual gift is to use it to help humanity. But because of ignorance, religion, and the fear of what people will say, they keep trying to run away from who they are, and by doing so, their lives become messed up. Dig deep, find your true self, and embrace it, and you’ll realize the essence of your existence and live a fulfilled life,” Edochie wrote.
This isn’t the first time Yul Edochie has voiced support for misunderstood groups. He previously defended people from Mbaise after hearing negative rumours about them, recounting the kindness he had received from Mbaise individuals.
Recently, Edochie also addressed the power in the name of Jesus, urging Nigerians not to deny its strength. He warned that rejecting the power of Jesus’s name could lead to personal downfall, even though aspects of religion may have been altered by humans over time.
Additionally, during the Easter season, Edochie encouraged the public to stop destroying shrines, stressing that not all deities are evil. He argued that many traditional practices were abandoned due to colonial influence and advised Nigerians to reconnect with their heritage and traditions.
