Nollywood icon Pete Edochie marks his 78th birthday today, receiving heartfelt tributes from his son, Yul Edochie, and daughter-in-law, Judy Austin. The legendary actor, widely celebrated as one of Nigeria’s greatest icons, was showered with praises and prayers by the two, despite ongoing controversies surrounding the Edochie family.
Taking to Instagram, Yul Edochie penned an emotional message celebrating his father as a living legend and the biggest name in Nollywood. The actor referred to Pete Edochie as “The Lion of Africa,” calling him a wonderful father, a great man, and his “man for life.”

Yul also acknowledged the support his father has shown him throughout his career, particularly in his ministerial work and during pivotal moments in his Nollywood journey.Judy Austin, Yul’s controversial second wife, joined in celebrating Pete Edochie’s milestone. Sharing her message on Instagram, she described Pete as a “living legend” and “one of the biggest names in Africa.” Judy prayed for God to bless him with good health, happiness, and peace.

Despite the warmth of these tributes, the Edochie family has faced tensions stemming from Yul Edochie’s marriage to Judy Austin. Pete Edochie has previously expressed disapproval of the union, praising Yul’s first wife, May Edochie, and referring to Judy in unflattering terms.
In an earlier interview, Pete revealed he wasn’t informed of Yul’s decision to take a second wife, and he reportedly walked off a movie set produced by Judy, refunding her payment. Similarly, Yul’s sister-in-law, Rita Edochie, has been vocal about her support for May, making it clear that Pete does not recognize Judy as part of the family.
