Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has issued a heartfelt apology to May Yul Edochie, the estranged wife of actor Yul Edochie, following her controversial comments on the Honest Bunch podcast.
Yvonne Jegede apologized to May Edochie for any perceived insensitivity, clarifying her intentions and expressing regret over her poorly articulated remarks.
During the podcast, Yvonne discussed her own marital struggles and inadvertently compared Yul Edochie’s polygamous marriage to that of Regina Daniels’ husband, Ned Nwoko. This comparison was interpreted by many as a slight against May Edochie, leading to widespread backlash.
In her apology, Yvonne Jegede emphasized that her comments were not meant to diminish May Edochie’s pain but rather to address cultural perspectives on polygamy. She acknowledged the hardships faced by May and other women in similar situations, stating,
I deeply regret that my comments were perceived as adding to her distress. It was never my intention to cause any pain or disrespect.”
Despite her public apology, many social media users remained unconvinced, citing Yvonne’s initial reaction to the backlash and her demeanour during the podcast. Actress Angela Okorie also criticized Yvonne, calling her remarks insensitive and accusing her of lacking empathy for another woman’s struggles.
This controversy comes amidst ongoing drama involving Yul Edochie, who married his junior colleague Judy Austin without his family’s support, leading to a public fallout with his first wife, May. Yul Edochie has faced criticism for his handling of the situation, including allegations of neglecting his children from his first marriage.
