The Zamfara State Auditor General has submitted the 2023 Report on the 14 Local Government Councils’ Accounts to the State House of Assembly for assessment.
The Report was discussed during Wednesday’s plenary session.
The move to discuss the Report was made by the House Majority Leader, Hon. Bello Muhammad Mazawaje Tsafe, and supported by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Adamu Aliyu Gummi.
Mazawaje stated that the presentation of the Auditor General’s financial report on the Local Government Councils in Zamfara was critical in allowing State legislators to consider and take appropriate action.
Two parliamentarians, Hon. Rilwanu Marafa Nagambo of Anka and Hon. Mikailu Aliyu Dangulbi of Maru South districts in Zamfara, emphasised the need to review the Report to guarantee its quality and accuracy before ratification.
The lawmakers proposed that the House Public Accounts Committee be tasked with conducting a thorough review of the Report to verify that appropriate criteria are met.
Following a lengthy debate, the Speaker of the House, Hon. Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki, asked the Public Accounts Committee to review the Auditor General’s Report and come back with suggestions for further steps.
In another event, the House requested that the relevant agencies give statements of account and all documentation relating to pension payments in the state to its appropriate committees.
This was given by Hon. Rilwanu Marafa Nagambo Anka and endorsed by members of the Zurmi East and Birnin Magaji constituencies, Hon. Halliru Abdullahi Kuturu and Nura Dahiru Sabon Birini, respectively.
