Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has given his complete support to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), saying that his government would not take drug addiction lightly.
According to a statement published by the governor’s spokesperson, Suleiman Bala Idris, the agency has expressed serious concerns about the obstacles it is encountering in the battle against drug misuse in the state.
According to the statement, the governor reaffirmed his commitment to working with the agency to make the state drug-free.
In response to the agency’s requests, Governor Lawal stated that combating drug usage in the state has become imperative, vowing to develop a drug-free society across all local government areas in the state.
“The state government requires a mutual understanding with the NDLEA in tackling the menace of drug abuse. We will also provide all necessary support needed to curb drug smuggling into the state.”
“Wrong usage of drugs is a significant factor contributing to the ongoing insecurity in the state. As many of the bandits operate under the influence of drugs, it is our responsibility to find a lasting solution to the issue,” the governor said.
The governor also vowed to rehabilitate the Gusau rehabilitation facility, offer suitable housing and offices for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and provide operating cars to the agency’s staff for effective operations.
