Fast-rising Nigerian influencer Enioluwa Adeoluwa has voiced strong support for Funke Akindele, rejecting the recurring comparisons between the actress and American star Taraji P. Henson.
Taking to Instagram, Enioluwa addressed the growing trend of calling Funke Akindele the “Nigerian version of Taraji P. Henson.” While expressing admiration for the American actress, he criticized Nigerians for seeking validation by likening their icons to Western celebrities.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the influencer passionately declared:
I really don’t like seeing comments calling Aunty Funke the ‘Nigerian version of Taraji P. Henson.’ As much as I love Taraji and admire her work, I don’t understand the constant need to compare our icons to Western figures.
Funke Akindele is The Funke Akindele—an unstoppable box office record breaker. She’s not a version of anyone but herself.”
This isn’t the first time netizens have drawn parallels between Funke Akindele and Taraji P. Henson. However, Funke Akindele’s track record in Nollywood stands unparalleled. With films like Omo Ghetto: The Saga and Battle on Buka Street, she continues to dominate as a box office trailblazer in Nigeria and West Africa.
Funke’s journey to stardom is an inspiring testament to perseverance. Reflecting on her challenges, the actress revealed last year that her billion-naira film A Tribe Called Judah marked a turning point. She credited self-belief and resilience for her success, encouraging others to rise above obstacles.
