Son of Brazilian legend, Marcelo, has decided to play for Spain, shunning his father’s home country. Enzo Alves Vieira had his international allegiance revealed by his proud father Marcelo on Tuesday via Instagram.
The 14-year-old, followed in his father’s footsteps in signing on at Santiago Bernabeu, penning a three-year deal with Los Blancos last year.
The boy however did not emulate his father in playing for Brazil. But Marcelo is happy for his son nonetheless.
Playing for the Real Madrid youth academy, Marcelo’s boy feels more connected to Spain, the country of his birth.
There’s also always the option of filing for a one-time switch with FIFA if he changes his mind and wants to suit up for Brazil.
After over a decade of playing abroad Marcelo returned home to play for Fluminese earlier this year.
Marcelo left Real Madrid last year as the club’s most decorated player. In 15 years, he won 25 trophies, including five Champions Leagues and six La Ligas.
He was part of Brazil’s squad for the 2014 and 2018 world cups.
