The Supreme Court is scheduled to rule today on Oyetola’s appeal seeking to remove Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
A five-member panel of Supreme Court justices adjourned to resolve the case surrounding the July 16, 2022, gubernatorial election.
On January 27, 2023, the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal voided the declaration that the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) Ademola Adeleke won the gubernatorial election.
In its majority verdict, the three-member panel tribunal led by Justice Tertsea Kume upheld a petition brought before it by the former governor of the state, Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who came second in the election.
However, on March 24 this year, after an appeal filed by Adeleke and PDP, the Court of Appeal overturned the court’s decision.
The Court of Appeal ruled unanimously by a panel of three judges that Adeleke’s appeal was well-founded.
Unsatisfied with this ruling, Oyetola and APC took the matter to the Supreme Court.
