English actor, Tom Holland, best known for his role as Spider-Man, recently spoke out about his sobriety journey, revealing that he has been sober for one year and four months.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Holland discussed his upcoming Apple TV+ show, The Crowded Room, and how working on the psychological thriller shifted his perspective on mental health. He explained that he became better at recognizing triggers and things that stress him out, and even spoke with psychiatrists to further understand his role in the series.
Holland spoke candidly about how working on the show was “so informative” for his own life, and how he hoped it would help viewers have more respect and sympathy for those dealing with mental health issues.
Learning about mental health and the power of it, and speaking to psychiatrists about Danny (his character) and Billy’s struggles, has been something that has been so informative to my own life,” he said.
Holland also talked about the mental toll that filming the show took on him, explaining that he needed to detach himself from his character after nine months of filming.
I was seeing myself in him, but in my personal life, I remember having a bit of a meltdown at home and thinking, like, ‘I’m going to shave my head. I need to shave my head, because I need to get rid of this character,'” he recalled.
