18 people were murdered when suspected armed herdsmen attacked the Iye village in the Uvir Council Ward of the Guma Local Government Area of Benue State. Apparently, six individuals were slain at Akpete village in Apa Local Government Area just two days prior to the incident.

Recall that on the previous Tuesday, six individuals, including three State Community Volunteers Guards members and a hunter, were slain between the villages of Ortese and Ngban in the same Guma LGA.

Around 6-7 p.m. on Sunday, there was the most recent attack at the Iye village, which resulted in the deaths of 18 individuals.

The native who lost a relative who wants to remain anonymous claimed-

“Eighteen people, including my brother, were killed while many others were injured with several houses burnt down”.

According to reports, the killers invaded the neighbourhood on a market day. They fired randomly, causing a large number of casualties.

The local government’s security officer, Christopher Waku, confirmed the incident via phone on Monday, stating that 18 persons were slain.

According to him-

“It is not well; 18 of our people were murdered yesterday (Sunday) around 6-7 pm at Iye village in Guma LGA. The village is after the University of Agriculture when you are going to Gbanjimba, headquarters of the LGA.”

Seven corpses have been found, according to the state commissioner of police, Okoro Julius. He noted that the details surrounding the incident were still sketchy.

He added by saying that one of the assailants died as well.
