Chief Afe Babalola (SAN), the founder of Afe Babalola University in Ado Ekiti, has urged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to implement a comprehensive restructuring. This can be done through a constitutional change to address some apparent political and social imbalances in the system.

The exorbitant allowances provided to previous presidents, their vice presidents, governors and their appointees, federal and state parliamentarians, as well as other political appointees, according to Babalola, ought to be stopped.

Speaking at the 63rd annual general meeting of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture with the topic “Promoting Public-Private Partnership for National Development,” the Senior Advocate of Nigeria suggested that officials should not be allowed to have foreign bank accounts.

According to him-

“Beginning from the 10th National Assembly, federal and state lawmakers should receive only sitting allowances and not salaries.

“What is being paid to the political office holders as severance packages while leaving office is outrageous and deplorable. It has to stop. All such perks should stop if the country is to make progress.”

He urged the federal government to ensure the security of lives and property to attract foreign investors to make investments in the nation.

Biodun Oyebanji, the governor of Ekiti State, recommended officials at all levels of government to focus on PPP efforts, calling them the most effective engine for economic growth and prosperity.
