Olukayode Egbetokun, the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) , has ordered the removal of the Police Mobile Force, PMF, from VIP escort and protection duty. Egbetokun issued the order on Monday at a meeting with police tactical commanders in Abuja.

The IGP stated during the conference that the force would perform a review of all mobile police activities to guarantee optimal utilization.

He stated that they had formed a special committee, chaired by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, to assess tactics and ensure compliance.

“Specifically, we shall effect the withdrawal of PMF personnel from VIP escort and guard duties,” Egbetokun stated.

In his explanation, the IGP noted that while the protection of dignitaries remains paramount, it is also imperative that priorities are realigned to address the escalating security challenges faced by Nigeria as a whole, ”by relieving the PMF of VIP escort and guard duties and redirect their focus toward addressing critical security concerns affecting our nation.”
