Prof. Olumuyiwa Popoola, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Ajayi Crowther University in Oyo State, has advised tertiary institutions to prioritise entrepreneurship education for students.
Popoola made this statement in a recent interview with reporters at the ACU student art show. The show was held on the school’s grounds.
He said-
“The quality of education in every society is defined by the graduates coming out of schools. In Nigeria, we might have fallen short of the recommendation of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, which states that 26 per cent of the national budget should be spent on education.
“However, we also have to consider the consistency of our education policy and most especially, implementation of the 6-3-3-4 system of education. Considering it has a huge focus on entrepreneurship training for students and its collapse.
“I am aware that the Federal Government had taken steps to strengthen the system but on our own as tertiary education managers, we have to be innovative and flexible in our curriculum in order to strengthen the entrepreneurship aspect of the curriculum.”
