The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted approval for McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, to establish the College of Law and commence the L.L.B. Law degree programme. The decision came after a successful Resource Verification Exercise conducted by the NUC.
In a letter addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francis Igbasan, and signed by Dr N. B Saliu, Deputy Executive Secretary (Academics) on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the NUC, the commission expressed its satisfaction with the institution’s preparedness for the new programme. The letter stated,
“I am directed to inform the Vice-Chancellor that the Executive Secretary has considered and approved the establishment of the full-time mode of the following undergraduate programmes, to be run in the Main Campus of the University, with effect from the 2023/2024 academic session: L.L. B Law and B.Sc. Public Health.”
Professor Igbasan, the Vice-Chancellor, expressed his joy and appreciation for the NUC’s decision, stating,
“Our request for the Resource Verification Exercise to the NUC was not misplaced. We were adequately prepared, as the human and infrastructural requirements have been on the ground ahead of their visits.”
In addition to the approval for the L.L.B. Law programme, McPherson University has also received NUC’s blessings to commence a B.Sc. Public Health programme, further expanding its programmes for the 2023/2024 academic session.
Furthermore, in a related development, McPherson University has received Full Accreditation from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) for its Bachelor’s degree in Nursing Science (B.NSc) programme. Earlier in the year, the NUC had granted Full Accreditation to several other academic programmes at the university, including B.A. Religion & Peace Studies, B.Sc. International Relations, and B.A. English.
The recent Full Accreditation by the NMCN signifies that graduates of the Nursing programme at McPherson University will not only receive academic degrees but also gain professional certifications from the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
With these recent approvals and accreditations, McPherson University is set to take significant strides in academic excellence and professional training.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Francis Igbasan said,
“McPherson University has so far obtained the needed Accreditation for all academic programmes we run, and to the glory of God, we shall commence the Law and Public Health programmes in the next academic session. The Nursing and Midwifery Council Accreditation is also icing on the cake, and the news will serve as an impetus for us to stay focused, not resting on our oars.”
McPherson University, located in Seriki-Sotayo, Ogun state, was founded in 2012. The institution was established by Foursquare Gospel Church and named after Aimee Semple McPherson, the church’s founder.
“McPherson education offers you the chance to engage with academics at the forefront of cutting-edge research and to contribute to solving some of our global challenges,” the institution wrote on its website.
