In the midst of an ongoing legal battle and heated social media exchanges, things have taken a tumultuous turn between renowned On-Air Personality, Dotun Kayode, and his former spouse, Taiwo Oyebanjo, the sister of the popular pop star Dapo “D’banj” Oyebanjo. Reports suggest that she has been found guilty of contempt by a High Court in Dukpa, Abuja.
In the divorce proceedings filed by Taiwo Oyebanjo in Abuja, she was today declared guilty of contempt of court and could face potential imprisonment.
The court’s decision arises from a shared custody arrangement of the couple’s children, which had been granted in a previous court order (suit No. GWD/ PET/25/21). In this case, Dotun Kayode had requested shared custody in April 2022, and initially, both parties complied.
However, Taiwo Oyebanjo is reported to have denied access to their children to Dotun since December 2022 without providing a valid reason. This non-compliance with the court order led Dotun to seek legal recourse, escalating the conflict between the former couple, which played out on social media platforms.
The court’s verdict in the contempt proceedings against Taiwo Oyebanjo found her guilty of violating the court’s order. It was declared that her refusal to grant Dotun Kayode access and custody of the children in December 2022 constituted disobedience of the court order. As a result, the court ordered her to pay a fine of N200,000 within 30 days or risk a jail term until the fine is settled.
During the judgment, Taiwo’s lawyers reportedly attempted to withdraw their representation on her behalf, but the matter was adjourned to December 11 for a full trial.
Reports suggest that Taiwo, the party in contempt, may have allegedly flown their children out of Nigeria since June 2023, raising concerns about compliance with court orders in Nigeria. The situation continues to unfold, and we will provide further updates as they become available.
