Electricity workers have shut down the national grid after organised trade unions declared an indefinite strike.
Ndidi Mbah, the spokesman for Transmission Company of Nigeria, confirmed this to reporters on Tuesday.
According to her, the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) obeyed the Nigeria Labour Congress’s directive to withdraw their services at 11:20 a.m. on Monday, resulting in a nationwide blackout.
She said:
“Electricity workers are NLC members; they’ve followed the directive by organized labour to withdraw their services from Tuesday.”
According to reports, the Federal Capital Territory and its surrounding areas are facing a power outage.
