The Senate has announced that it intends to call the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, in response to the worsening security conditions in Abuja.
Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory, said this during a Sunday Channels TV programme, while discussing the security issue that is roiling the nation’s capital.
She stated that the Minister will be called to explain his strategy for handling the security situation when the Senate reconvenes in session.
Elected on the platform of the Labour Party, LP, Senator Kingibe bemoaned the recent uptick in kidnappings, murders, and other acts of violence committed by the notorious bandits in the country’s capital.
According to the Senator:
“It is not that I am hoping. I know he will be summoned. But whether he responds or not is a different matter entirely. But as the chief security officer of the FCT, he should have a plan.
“He should be able to tell us, the committee, and specifically me, that this is the plan for protecting the people of the FCT. Between him, the police commissioner, and the head of the DSS, they must have a plan.”
The legislator went on to say that there is a “disconnect” between her and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), accusing the latter of disregarding her correspondence and communications in the aftermath of the local instability.
