The Ogun State Government has pledged its commitment to continuous collaboration with Heifer International to maximise the state’s potential for food sufficiency and reduce hunger and poverty.

Heifer International is a development agency that uses livestock and education to fight poverty and hunger globally.

At a meeting with Dr. Lekan Tobe, the interim country director of Heifer International in Nigeria, in Abeokuta, Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security Bolu Owotomo stated that the cooperation will strengthen ties between the state government and the organisation.

The discussion, according to Owotomo, was a continuation of their prior work together when he was the State Agricultural Development Corporation’s general manager. He also mentioned the necessity of creating and implementing programmes that directly assist farmers.

He continued by saying that the government’s top priorities were to boost farmer income and productivity, create value chains, encourage women and youth employment in agriculture, and make the most of the state’s current agricultural resources.
