On Thursday, personnel from the Ogun State Police Command neutralised five of the eight gunmen involved in the kidnapping of Tunde Osifowokan, the farm manager of Flourishing Poultry Farm, Idowa in the State’s Odogbolu local government area, following a gunfight.

Recall that the masked gunmen reportedly attacked the poultry farm on Monday, firing intermittently before abducting Osifowokan, who is rumoured to be the younger brother of the farm owner.

The hoodlums were alleged to have asked the whereabouts of the farm owner, following which his younger brother got up and stated that the owner of the farm was not around.

When the kidnappers discovered that the young man was the target’s brother, they reportedly carried him away amid heavy firing.

Confirming the occurrence, Abiodun Alamutu, the State Commissioner of Police, stated that the police had been tracking down the armed group since the incident was reported.

According to Alamutu:

“At about 4am on Thursday morning, our anti-kidnapping unit stormed the kidnappers hideout at Odogbolu forest along Sagamu-Benin express way.

“The kidnappers engaged the squad in a fierce gun battle, during which five, out of about eight were neutralised, while the rest escaped with bullet wounds.

“Exhibits recovered from the dead kidnappers included cash sum of N1,185, 070, suspected to be part of the ransom they had collected.

“Other exhibits are one sword, cellphones, substances suspected to be hard drugs, charms, empty shells of AK47 riffle and sticks”.
