In a move that has captured attention on social media, controversial Nigerian personality Okuneye Idris, better known as Bobrisky, has made a surprising donation to Kirikiri Prison.
A photo circulating online depicts rows of chairs at the correctional service center with a placard bearing the inscription, “Courtesy of Idris Okuneye BobRisky.”
Accompanying the image is a caption stating, “On behalf of BobRisky, for the Nigerian Correctional Service, Kirikiri, for the visiting area.”
This unexpected act of philanthropy comes amidst recent legal troubles for Bobrisky. Just weeks ago, it was reported that the Federal High Court in Lagos sentenced Bobrisky to six months’ imprisonment without the option of a fine. The judgment, delivered on April 12, 2024, marked the culmination of legal proceedings stemming from charges of currency mutilation and abuse of the Naira.
Bobrisky’s legal woes began earlier in April when he was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for the aforementioned offenses. He subsequently pleaded guilty and was detained, leading to widespread media coverage and public scrutiny.
In a further development, it was reported four days ago that Bobrisky had been transferred from Ikoyi Correctional Center to Kirikiri Prison by the Nigerian Correctional Service. The move, explained as part of standard procedure due to Kirikiri’s larger capacity and enhanced security measures, underscored the ongoing legal saga surrounding Bobrisky’s incarceration.
Against this backdrop of legal challenges and controversy, Bobrisky’s donation to Kirikiri Prison has sparked intrigue and speculation.
