In a recent interview, popular Nigerian skit maker Layi Wasabi opened up about the origins of his iconic oversized suit, a staple in many of his comedic videos.
According to Layi Wasabi, he stumbled upon the oversized suits, along with accompanying shoes, in his grandfather’s belongings. Remarkably, the suit he uses in his skits predates him and holds sentimental value, with Layi revealing that he possesses a total of five similar suits.
The distinctive suit has become a trademark for Layi Wasabi, particularly in his portrayal of the humorous character known as ‘The Law.’
Speaking about ‘The Law,’ Layi Wasabi expressed that the character comes naturally to him, requiring little effort to embody its comedic essence. He also shed light on the strategic approach he takes in planning and executing his skits, emphasizing the importance of meticulous planning in his creative process.
Over time, Layi Wasabi has garnered widespread acclaim for his skits, notably for his avoidance of vulgar language and the objectification of women, a departure from some of his peers in the industry.
Beyond his success in skit making, Layi Wasabi has ventured into the movie industry, securing roles in films like “Anikulapo.”
While Layi Wasabi continues to flourish in his career, recent events have cast a shadow over some of his colleagues in the industry.
