Workers in Anambra State were outraged on Wednesday when the state governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, did not attend the worker’s day rally.
Soludo was represented at Alex Ekwueme Square by Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, the state Deputy Governor.
According to the workers, Soludo did not attend the celebration because he was frightened to face the NLC and TUC’s extensive list of requests. They maintained that he was not a worker-friendly governor.
Workers who first refused to march in the procession that has become emblematic with the event said Soludo’s absence was purposeful.
They continuously screamed “No” to requests to join the march, claiming that Soludo has never visited a workers’ gathering since becoming governor. They ultimately reluctantly joined the march.
Following many attempts to quiet the protesting workers, the Deputy Governor told them that their issues will be handled shortly.
He said:
“Governor Soludo as a worker-friendly governor is aware of your plights. You will definitely hear from him soon.”
