The Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency says that 708 unauthorised constructions have been built in the state’s flood-prone zones.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the agency’s Executive Secretary, Usman Mazadu, announced a two-day inspection trip to flood-prone districts in Kaduna.

He stated that the evaluation was required to help the agency in properly manage the state’s forecasted flood outlook.
He stated, “Based on reports from relevant stakeholders, about 708 identified structures were erected in the flood-prone area across the state.”
Mazadu stated that the agency has formed an ad hoc team to analyse the status of flood-prone regions to facilitate efficient planning and execution.
He pledged that the agency, along with its relevant stakeholders, would do all necessary to mitigate the consequences of flooding in the state.
Mazadu urged state people to abandon the practice of throwing waste indiscriminately into drainage systems to avert flooding.
Speaking after the trip, Malam Hussaini Abdullahi, Head of KADSEMA’s Disaster Risk Reduction Unit, said the action was part of the agency’s proactive attempts to mitigate the impact of flooding in the state.
He asked inhabitants of the state to follow the established processes for developing any landed property by going through the correct channels to avoid floods.
According to NAN, the flood assessment team visited Rafin Guza, Kigo Road, Bashama Road, Unguwan Rimi, and Unguwan Dosa in Kaduna North Local Government Area.
The crew also paid visits to Anguwar Romi, Gonin Gora, and Sabon Tasha in Chikun Local Government Area.
