In a determined attempt to reduce brain drain, the Kebbi State Government has raised medical physicians’ pay to parity with their counterparts in the federal government’s tertiary health facilities.

Musa Inusa-Isma’il, Kebbi State Commissioner for Health, said this during the handover of ambulances to state-owned health institutions at the Ministry of Health in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.

According to Ahmed Idris, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Inusa Isma’il stated that the goal of the harmonization was to maintain present medical doctors while attracting new ones to the state’s services.

According to him, doctors across the state have already begun to benefit from the improved salary, which will be effective August 2024.

He said that the cars’ release fulfilled Governor Nasir Idris’ pledge to improve the state’s medical facilities and prevent brain drain in the state.

He said:

“His Excellency said I should inform you, the beneficiaries of this gesture, that the vehicle should be strictly used for the intended purpose. It should not be used for anything else.

“If there is no referral case, each of the vehicles must be parked at the hospital by 6 pm. The governor said you should warn your drivers against reckless driving as well as violating the instructions.

“We should also do everything possible to reciprocate the gesture by working according to the terms and conditions attached.”

Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, Birnin Kebbi; State Teaching Hospital, Kalgo; General Hospital, Argungu; General Hospital, Yauri; General Hospital, Zuru; and General Hospital, Bunza were among the medical facilities that benefited.
